Quick paint tips

Here’s a quick photo tutorial on chalk painting.

I see ads for other paints using the lead ” no sanding or prep required “.

I always think that’s kinda misleading as you should have a little prep, even at least cleaning your piece.

Of course people tend to think sanding means grinding away to the wood and that isn’t necessary. Sometimes it could be just a light scuff sanding to knock the shine off a piece and then clean.

For the purpose of this post though, I’m showing you a cute little table I got recently that I’m going to paint.

Look at those legs and details ❤

You’ll see its before pics…..the only thing I did was clean it with white lightening.

I mix up in a jug and use as needed

This not only cleans but deglosses as well. This little jar will last forever.

After I cleaned it and it dried well I grabbed one of my favorite Dixie Belle brushes and the paint I chose was Burlap.

You can see all of the legs and around table edge are just smooth wood, not sanded.

The final picture shows the table with two coats of Burlap.

I really love this color. I’m using white wax for the details!

I did choose to sand the top because I didn’t plan to paint. The wood looked pretty and I was so surprised to see that the flower designs are somehow in the wood and didn’t go away when I sanded top!

Love that the flowers stayed after sanding

I think I’m going to use our Au Naturel Voodoo Gel Stain on top. This is a new color and it just puts a wash over it allowing grain to show through.

I rarely show a piece in the works 😜 so you’ll have to check back when it’s posted for sale.

I hope this helps you in determining how to paint your piece.

No, you don’t have to sand.

But I always tell people their finished product is as good as their prep. I can pick a piece out a mile away that’s just had paint thrown over broken veneer, chipping paint or flaking finishes.

If your piece has a smooth finish, clean it well to get any dust, dirt or grime off of it, allow to dry, then grab your chosen color and have fun painting!

I carry 69 gorgeous chalk paint colors to choose from.
