So many pretty colors for painting

Hello there and thanks for stopping by my Shades Of Yesterday page!

My name is Cathie and I’m the quirky,  creative, left handed mind behind my repurposed vintage and antique furniture ( and other cool little items as well)

I’ve often been asked how long I’ve been doing this and how I started.

The answer is, about two years ( although Shades of Yesterday was birthed about a year after I started dabbling in this) and I didn’t set out to do this work, I kinda just stumbled into it.

Literally.

It started with a big hutch that had been my mom’s. I decided to try chalk  paint on it . The finished product came out so nice, I tried another piece. I did a few things after that and they started selling, people seemed to like what I did.

For me the “work” felt effortless and I derived immense satisfaction from bringing an old, broken piece back to new life. It is easy for me to catch a “vision” in how to transform it.

One thing slowly led to another.

The name for my business easily came to me, shades, a play  on colors to bring a piece to life, and yesterday, reflecting back on its history.

With my business name birthed a few months later I took a plunge by leasing a space in a local vintage shop. I was there for almost a year when they closed pushing me to make a choice.

Quit my fledgling business or land on my feet and do better?

I found a perfect spot in the heart of our downtown on Main street, The Corner Cartel.  It has turned into the best move ever for me!

Not only has my business grown I have also become a retailer for Dixie Belle paint.  I love being able to offer products to my customers to help them update a piece.

I have always appreciated old, vintage and antique things. I love the life they have lived and the feelings they can evoke.

Warmth, coziness, life and love.

It is a joy and privilege to give new life and purpose to items once deemed trash or useless.

Not only do I do my own projects for sale, I also do custom work for my clients.
